Small Babies Small Gifts

I recently got in touch with an old friend from high school. Ironically we were both pregnant. She was due ten days after me. So exciting to listen to each other rant and rave. Well one horrible night she started getting bad pains in her abdomen but didn think they were labor but went to ER. Her appendix had ruptured, but she lives in a small town and they did not have the abilities to deal with an appendix problem along with a pregnancy and they air lifted her to the next larger city. She made it through surgery fine but had so much toxicity built up from the rupture they had to wash off her organs, ick right? That included her Uterus, which a few days later put her into full blown labor. At 29 weeks her sweet baby Emma was born. She is alive and doing well but will be in the hospital for 6-8 weeks. She is breathing on her own but a baby that small cant just go home. So sad, but i am so happy she is doing as well as she is. So i made her a little tiny cap and a little tiny blanket. I dont know that she will even get to use them but i was hoping to bring her some comfort. Keep baby Emma in your thoughts please.

The blanket is just a huge granny square.
The cap is simple: Chain 5, single stitch together, double crochet 12, single stitch together then double crochet 2 in each (24 double crochet) single stictch together, 24 double crochet, continue until hat is desired length. I finished mine off with a fan (probably not right term) but you could do a simple single crochet.
