Today was the big day. We booked these reservations two months ago! I am so happy we went! I was completely under the impression this was more of a train trip than any thing so boy was i surprised to find out that it was more about gold mining. Not a bad thing but i had hyped my kids up for this long train ride and it didnt turn out that way. Thank goodness for cookies and hot chocolate but ill tell you about that later.
So we get on this train and go only a few feet before we are entering this crazy tunnel! They shut us in so it was completely dark until our eyes adjusted. Then i see that there is a man in there with a light on his head, so scary. I am super claustrophobic and now my son says "i want out" lol! He is holding my hand, Brenna was completely silent and still. Once our eyes adjusted the man came out of this other little mine and started to tell us about this under ground mining and how it worked. Very interesting stuff. We then leave the tunnel and go only a few more feet then we get to see all this old antique mining stuff that has just been left in place. They explain it to all of us and it was so cool. We got just a little further and there is this cabin built into this moutain next to a stream and this is where a one man gold paning station was set up. Most people didnt strick it lucky that way and were better off getting paid hourly at the mines it sounds like. lol! Then we go around this little corner and we stop at this huge beautiful building and walk behind it where they tell us how to pan for gold, the different types of gold depending on where you find it, and on a side not just so you know gold weighs 20 times more than water so its never just floating down stream. lol! Then we get up to go do our own panning for gold and they send us walking through another tunnel, weird and hand us a bag of rocks and dirt and send us to this area to pan our gold. Wellllll i cant remember how much ours weighed but it was $42.00 worth. We just got a bunch of flakes but still it was so much fun, the kids eyes lit up at the sight of it, and we got to take it home!! Brenna is super excited to show her daddy. I told her we could send him some and she said "no he can wait" lol! She has the fever. lol! When we were all done we finally got to go inside this building that i adore and inside was a gift shop. lol! I was so dissapointed, ha ha ha. But also inside was FREE cookies and FREE spring water (it tasted like dirt, 100% authentic spring water!!) and FREE flaming hot hot chocolate, ask my son it made him shiver it was so hot. But once it cooled down him and Brenna sucked it down quickly. We dont do hot chocolate in this house (kids crack ) because it makes my kids crazy! Any how so then we get back on the train and some how some way it was like an optical illusion we went a few feet and were back at the begining. So weird! It was a really great time, i learned tons, and the kids had a blast. They are both tuckered out and fast asleep also. Here is there link *click here*
